| Abstract | The Painted Stork (Mycteria leucocephala) is a colonial waterbird whose seasonal occurrence and breeding are closely associated with the availability of wetlands, food resources, and favourable environmental conditions. The present study was conducted at Aner Dam Wildlife Sanctuary, Shirpur, Maharashtra, during October and November 2024 to document the seasonal occurrence and breeding status of Painted Storks. Systematic field surveys were carried out using direct counts, binocular observations, and photographic documentation. A maximum of 152 Painted Storks was recorded in October, indicating peak seasonal abundance. By the end of November, the number of adults had declined to 47, while 105 individuals remained associated with chicks, and active nests were recorded, indicating successful breeding. The findings demonstrate that Aner Dam Wildlife Sanctuary provides suitable nesting and foraging habitat for Painted Storks and serves as an important breeding site. This study provides baseline information for future monitoring and supports the conservation and management of wetland habitats essential for sustaining Painted Stork populations. |
