| Abstract | able extraction from document images in Devanagari script presents unique challenges due to complex character compositions, diacritical marks, and diverse table layouts. While existing table extraction approaches primarily focus on English and Latin scripts, their performance degrades significantly when applied to Indic languages. This paper proposes an integrated approach that incorporates both table structure and textual content to improve table extraction accuracy for Devanagari documents. The method combines structural cues such as row and column boundaries with content-level features derived from Devanagari text recognition. Optical Character Recognition outputs are refined through manual correction and validation to ensure linguistic accuracy. Experiments conducted on scanned Devanagari documents demonstrate that jointly modeling structure and content leads to more reliable table extraction compared to structure-only approaches. The proposed framework effectively preserves semantic relationships within tables and supports downstream tasks such as information retrieval and digital archiving. This work contributes toward building robust, language-aware table understanding systems for low-resource scripts. |
